As you all know, we have been so busy here in the Budge household. But thankfully things are winding down. Chelsea finally picked a college and is heading to New Hampshire in the Fall. Chloe finished her fifth year of dance and we had her recital on Saturday. Chelsea finished up her play at Oddfellows and has went to one of her two proms she is going to this month. Busy busy busy.

I was so excited to have the opportunity to have some time with Chelsea and have a girls night. We have not had much time together because of our schedules. This Mother’s Day was the first time in forever that we were able to just have fun as a family. No schedule!

Our girls night started with a quick trip to Walgreens for our Sally Hansen nail supplies. We had a night of nail painting, snacking and chatting ahead of us. The #IHeartMyNailArt display was super cute and we had a hard time picking out what we wanted to buy. There were so many choices and now I think Chloe actually has a new obsession. She would have bought every single nail strip that was there. Chelsea picked the Snake Charmer nail strips. She was looking for a more trendy “Street Style” look. Oh, and if you get to the register and realize you forgot your balance rewards card, don’t panic. All you need to do it type in your phone number and you are all set. Because of course I couldn’t find my card. Ha!

Chelsea started with her nail strips. They were really easy. Easier than I thought they would be. I used one on one of my nails to try to have a trendy look without trying to look too young. You may notice that there are not any pictures of us from this night. We really should have planned ahead because we were SO NOT camera ready. Seriously. We had no business taking our pictures that night. So you get to just see our nails, and that is what you really care about right? Here you go!

We had some fun and kept trying different looks. Chloe had to join in and she loved the magnetic nail polish (which is on sale for 5.99 until 5/25.Yay!) that she picked out. I am so glad we were able to find the time for this over the weekend. We needed it. I was trying to find some nail looks that a forty year old could pull off. We all had some good laughs at the stuff I was coming up with. Really? When did I get so old and uncool? It was fun to see the look on Chloe’s face with some of my ideas. But I actually stayed pretty safe. Chelsea was a bit more creative than I was I would say.

Chelsea loves fashion and music and a lot of her inspiration comes from the music she loves and Vogue, her favorite magazine. She has a very eclectic style that can change at any moment. Oh to be a teenager. I loved being able to express myself when I was younger and not care what anyone thought. Now I have to hear it from my kids when they don’t like my style choices. They are worse than my parents ever were!

We had a blast just hanging out and doing our nails. Snacks, trashy TV and fun manicures. What more could you ask for? I need to fit in a few more of these nights before Chelsea leaves for college. Time goes by way too fast and I know that it is so important to make the time for these memories. I am totally surprised I did not cry once while we were hanging out. I AM getting better about her leaving!

What are some fun fashion or beauty risks that you make once in a while? Do you ever use a crazy nail polish, bold eye shadow or wear a funky skirt? If you do, let me know in the comments what your tips are for pulling it off in everyday life.

  1. This looks like so much fun. My girls bought me some Sally Hansen nail polish for Mother’s Day, so I think a Girl’s Night In is in order this weekend. Thanks for the tips!

It was so much fun! But we definitely need some practice. Some of our more creative nails did not come out too good! LOL
